Julia Magdalene Rómas is a Polish-German artist, teacher and musician based in Berlin. In her world sounds have colors and lines and shapes play music. Her multifaceted art practice includes paintings, sculpture, sounds, poetry and performance art that both seeks and shifts the boundaries between our concepts of identity, self and other – telling stories of creation of surreal creatures, colorful curiosities and dreamlike landscapes through the use of visuals and language.
The studies and performance classes at Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg, Center for Dance - Improvisation- Performance Hamburg TRIADE, Lola Rogge Schule Hamburg and Tanzfabrik Berlin form the training in painting, sculpture, free improvisation, improvised music, performance and contemporary dance.
She is singing in the psychedelic rock band PADREMA. Her new release 'You Don't Need' with the musician Sir Nebula deals with identity formation and the current gender debate, which she underlines in her music video with excerpts from the butoh dance.
