Her multi-faces art practice combines painting, sculpture, writing, music and performance. Her works are related to her theoretical research about othering, orientalism in east central europe and the space of the self in the relation between human and nature. She exhibited and performed her work at local galleries, collectives and concert spaces in Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Venice and Berlin. Her work was honored with different grants like project funding Freundeskreis der HfBk Hamburg, master grant of HfBK Hamburg and Stiftung Kulturfonds. She is member of the Berlin-based band Spider Hug and teaching art and sculpture in Berlin. On the weekends she is selling her work at local art markets in Berlin.
»In her work, painting, performance, music, video, text and scientific research flow into each other. Julia Romas deals with concepts of identity, the spaces of the self and the relationship between humans and nature. She is inspired by her Slavic roots and her stays in Asia, where she engaged in ritual dances, Far Eastern handicrafts and music. The vocabulary of her paintings is inspired by Eastern European folk art and folklore: people, dances, surreal animal beings, semicircles and plant worlds. Julia Romas combines her dance training and her passion for writing in experimental readings and performances, which as part of her versatile practice also flow into the music videos she produces to her own music. Julia Romas creates an extensive oeuvre, which she has already presented beyond the framework of the Kunstakademie Hamburg, in exhibitions, concert rooms and galleries.« (Markus Selg, 2021)
